DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR HAIR (Hair Story)
After spending a couple of hours at the park last Saturday, I met a lady who was advertising her hair care services on my way home. Normally I don't go out on Saturdays, but the weather was so nice that I had decided to take a walk. I had my hair in two ponytails (one on top and the other at the bottom). I didn't either moisturize and seal my hair all week or do any scalp massages, but my hair still looked decent (at least it did to me). Nonetheless, it must have been looking dry for as the lady and I were making small talk, she stated that she could deep condition my hair for me... to which I quickly reply: "I deep condition my hair at home." I was waiting for the green light when she struck up the conversation so when the light turned green, I greeted her politely then crossed the street to go home.
I know the lady meant well and was only advertising her hair care services, but her words confirmed what I didn't want to face: that the hair care routine that I had adopted after my last relaxer update wasn't working. I've been washing my hair only every two weeks, not moisturizing and sealing in between. My scalp has been flaking because of non-existent scalp massages. So, instead of waiting until this coming weekend, I decided to wash my hair this past Sunday.
I decided to go back to the routine that has been working for me. I did a pre-shampoo treatment with Vatika’s Enriched Coconut Hair Oil (review coming soon) for 4 hours, considering my hair was dry. I shampooed twice with the Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive shampoo, deep conditioned with ORS Replenishing Conditioner for an hour. After I rinsed the deep conditioner out and padded my hair dry with a cotton blanket, I spritzed some Aussie Hair Insurance leave-in conditioner on my hair and sealed it with Garnier’s smoothing oil. I then detangled my hair and created 8 twists.
I had forgotten to curl the ends before going to bed. So Tuesday morning, I unraveled and separated them, and tucked the ends under creating a faux bob. Not exactly what I was going for, but it worked out this week. I like the way the curls’ pattern look so natural, and they were softer at the end of the day than when I first untwisted them. I did get a couple of compliments at work - totally different from the comments I got earlier this week.
I only used 5 products to get my hair done last weekend. Moral of the story: never get lazy with your hair care because people WILL notice. And you don't need to use a lot of products to achieve good looking hair. I intend to use the same products tomorrow (wash day again!) but instead of the ORS Replenishing Conditioner, I will use Vatika's deep conditioner.
I hope you will enjoy your wash day as much as I will enjoy mine☺.
