MY SHORTEST RELAXER DAY EVER !!!
I know this post will be beneficial to a lot of people as they will find less and less time for their hair in coming weeks: holiday dinners and/or parties, vacations, church activities, you name it. I did a post about how I cut time clarifying my hair after a relaxer touch-up. But at my last relaxer touch up, I simplified the clarifying step even more. I also cut down on deep conditioning time, which means I only spent an hour and twenty minutes on my hair (yes, I counted!) from the application of the relaxer to rinsing my hair after deep conditioning. It can be less if you are quicker than I am or have shorter length hair. Here is how I did it:
- It didn't take long to part my hair in small sections like I usually do and apply the vaseline on my scalp and length of my hair. I started the process at 10H30 on a Sunday night. And I had to work the next day. So yes, the pressure was on!
- Applying and smoothing the relaxer took me the usual 16 minutes. I let it sit for another 4 minutes while I get the water's temperature right before I started rinsing it out.
- The following step is where I saved the most time, the way I clarified my hair. I first rinsed it with water and GENEROUSLY shampooed my hair 3 times with ORS Aloe Shampoo. I then shampooed with Isoplus Neutralizing Shampoo + Conditioner to see how much of the relaxer was still on my hair. I sprayed some white vinegar on my hair and let it sit for 5 mins, then rinsed it out, used Isoplus Neutralizing shampoo again to find that my hair was completely free of relaxer!
- I deep conditioned for 30 minutes only instead of an hour with Africa's Best Hair Mayonnaise. By 11h50pm, I was done!
The secret for me was to not be stingy with my clarifying shampoo, thus reducing how many times I have to shampoo. I used A LOT of shampoo, much more than I would normally use. And of course, the vinegar made the process even quicker. I don't think I'll ever have a relaxer touch-up where I don't clarify with white vinegar after shampooing.
So, that's how I was able to save a lot of time doing my own relaxer on a Sunday night. I really hope these tips help maintain good looking relaxed hair with the little time you'll have to yourself during the holidays.
