RELAXER UPDATE - APRIL 2017
This relaxer touch-up was different from the previous ones. I hadn't touched my hair for three weeks prior to last Saturday: no deep conditioning, no moisturizing and sealing, no detangling, no scalp massages... I would only wrap my hair at night and pass a comb over my hair in the morning, just to make sure there are no strands of hair out of place. In the meantime, the new growth just recoiled on itself during those three weeks.
I actually wanted to do the touch-up on Saturday, but considering how dense my new growth was, I concentrated on loosening it with my fingers - taking my time doing so - and based my scalp with Vaseline. I parted my hair the usual way - 3 big sections, then 5 to 6 smaller sections in each part - then loosened the new growth and finger-detangled as I went along.
The next day, I mixed the relaxer, based my hairline and ears, and proceeded with the touch-up. I must say I'm getting more comfortable with the self-relaxing process as it took me only 14 minutes to apply and smooth each small section. Then I undid the twists before I clarify and deep condition. I was actually 13 weeks and a few days post relaxer.
After deep conditioning, I applied my leave-in conditioner and sealed that with the Garnier Whole Blends Smoothing Oil. But because I had neglected my hair before the touch-up, I noticed my hair was tangled near the roots and at the ends in some areas. So, instead of forcing the comb through, I removed the knots with my fingers. It was a tedious task but so worth it. I had a lot of shedding from those three weeks that I didn't touch my hair.
I may change my hair routine a bit in the coming months. The reason being, I'm having less time to care for my hair but I still want to keep it looking and feeling decent, even if it means I'll have to go back to the fun life. I'm also trying to minimize manipulation and breakage as I have an under-processed section in my hair (will talk more about that in another post). I don't have a lot of breakage but I'd like to retain as much as length as possible. I'm thinking about doing a corrective relaxer myself. I'll update if I go ahead with it or not.
That was my relaxer update. I enjoyed it and am also glad that I can have access to my scalp again. Overall, I'm happy with my hair.
