REGIMEN AFTER MY HAIR CUT - part 2

In my last post I talked about a guide I found on Wikihow that helped me build my hair regimen. Here are the products I have incorporated into my hair regimen so far:

1.       Shampoo once a week
I don’t shampoo once a week, I co-wash with Wen cleansing conditioners since I live in a dry environment and my hair is also dry. I have several Wen conditioners that I’m trying to use up - pomegranate, fig and lavender (which is my favorite so far) – until I find a cleansing conditioner I can use permanently.

2.       Weekly light protein treatment for 30 minutes for stronger hair
I use the ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner for 45 minutes to an hour every week.

3.       Deep conditioning for 45 minutes or overnight
The night before wash day, I deep condition with coconut oil and leave it on my hair overnight. The next day, I rinse my hair then start co-washing.

4.       Moisturizing and sealing
I had tried this but I don’t think it works if my hair is flat-ironed, because my hair will tend to get frizzy. So I only oil my scalp with a mix of coconut and olive oil, and coat my hair with olive oil. I do this every night.

5.       Scalp massage
I do this every time I oil my scalp at night. I don’t do it for more than a minute because as we know, too much of a good thing can be bad.

6.       Clarifying
I started to clarify with ORS Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo. But I wanted to use something completely natural, like the apple cider vinegar rinse. But the rinse makes my scalp itch so bad that I think I’ll just go back to clarify with the ORS shampoo.

7.       Hard protein treatment
I’ve yet to incorporate a hard protein treatment regularly. But when I do it I use ORS hair masque.

8.       Coat hair with essential oils
I’m still researching as to which essential oils will be more effective for my hair growth.

9.       Use heat protectant
I do use ORS heat protectant.

10.   Cut split ends every 5 – 6 months
I’ll be due to trim my hair if necessary in a couple of weeks.

11.   Take vitamins/multivitamins, drink lots of water, and exercise
I take my multivitamins every day. I used to take Centrum and One-a-Day Woman but they make me nauseous. I now take a more generic brand. I also drink more water than juice; if I crave juice, I water it down so it won’t be too sugary. I gave up on sodas a long time ago; I eat more organic food. I zumba whenever possible and go to a sauna once a week.

12.   Wear protective styles
I wear my hair flat to my head J I tried doing curls with my curling iron but I don’t really like them. I like straight hair the most.

13.   Create a regimen
Which will be for another post J

14.   Join a hair website

There are also a lot of examples of healthy hair regimen on Youtube. I’m very grateful for these ladies on Youtube because in general, women don’t share their beauty secrets. I think if I knew of this community before my hair disaster, my hair journey would have been different. But now I’m learning to appreciate my hair more, and take better care of it. I believe my hair with be shoulder length again in no time J.
