Introduction
I’m so excited about this blog!
No other journey has been so rewarding and fulfilling!
So, as the title of my blog
states, I will be sharing all my experiences and acquired knowledge on my hair
journey. I can’t promise it’s going to be a professional blog because I’m a
beginner myself when hair care is concerned. And that is the reason why I’m
starting this blog, because it seemed to me most of the blogs out there are
from people who are well on their way to achieving their hair goals. There seems to be nothing for people with
short hair focusing on growing healthy long hair. So I wanted to share that
caring for hair while reaching for your goal is not as scary as some might make
it seem.
Caring for your hair shouldn't be
scary to the point where you have to relay it to someone else, unless, that
other person is a professional who cares for your hair health. Hair care should
be part of the process of loving yourself as a person. The same way you want to
eat right and exercise to be and stay healthy, the same way you go to school to
promote your career, the same effort you put into a relationship for it to work;
the same love should go into your hair.
One big fear (or laziness,
because I could have found out for myself by doing research on the net, but I
wasn't sure that people talked about these things on the internet…) that I had
was relaxing my own hair. I had medium length hair at the time, and long hair
is a big deal in my family. So I was scared of overlapping the relaxer and my
hair would start to break off. But I had started to have new growth that I was
unable to manage. I didn't know about deep conditioning, even less about moisturizing deep conditioning. All I
knew about deep conditioning was it was for people who can afford to buy
expensive products, and if you can’t do it at home, you have to go to a salon;
and at the time, I couldn't afford to go to a salon.
I’m not a stingy person. I just
don’t buy things that I don’t think is necessary, and at the time, I didn't
know moisturizing deep conditioning was necessary for relaxed hair with new
growth. By the way, I have dry 4c hair type. Sometimes my hair is so dry it
feels like a steel wood pad.
So, on May 9th, 2014, I
cut short my badly matted hair and got a pixie hair cut. The whole process was
painful but relieving at the same time. It was a fresh new start on so many
different levels! That’s the reason why this hair journey means so much to me.
And I’m really excited to share it J!
